UPDATE: North Korea is China's useful idiot

China said on Tuesday it was concerned about reports that a U.S. aircraft carrier may join a military exercise with South Korea. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said China was worried the show of naval force, including an American aircraft carrier, could unsettle the region.

This has something to do with North Korea, but it has a lot more to do with China's long-standing goal to dominate East Asia. China entered the Korean War in late 1950 when General MacArthur stupidly brought his troops close to the Yalu River. China is worried about the possibility of American troops entering North Korea again and so it props-up Kim Jong-il's murderous regime.

As I wrote before, China has already proposed "that China and the United States split the Pacific Ocean down the middle." It will take our money in exchange for its low-quality products, but it does not want our military anywhere near its borders.

The six-party talks were always doomed to failure because China needs a dotty North Korea as insulation between it and the USA. I hope a carrier is sent; it would be fun to watch China's chain being yanked.
